Where was it, and when?
Geopoch is a free daily quiz in the browser. You guess the place and the year of historical events, buildings and works: a pin on a 3D globe, a year on a timeline. Five puzzles a day, no sign-up, no ads.
A question from the game
Three heads of government negotiate in summer over the ordering of a defeated country. One of them is voted out of office in the middle of the conference.
- Clue 2: The venue is a country house in the English style, built for a crown prince.
- Clue 3: The place lies directly southwest of the capital of the defeated country.
Show the answer
Potsdam Conference, Cecilienhof Palace, Potsdam, July to August 1945.

How it is played
- For each question you drop a pin on the globe and choose a year on the timeline.
- Each question is worth up to 2,000 points, each round up to 10,000. The closer the place and the year, the more points.
- You can reveal up to three clues. The second and third clues cost points (factor 1.0, then 0.85, then 0.70).
- In the daily round a clock runs for everyone: 60 seconds per question. Lock in at once and you keep all points; use the whole limit and you keep 70%. In free play the clock is adjustable (15 to 120 seconds) or off.
- If you like, enter your daily result in the leaderboard with a nickname: today, this week and streaks, per edition. No account is needed.
- The daily round is the same for everyone. The day changes at midnight, Berlin time.
Two editions
- Classic: from early history to 1999, 457 questions. The timeline runs from 3000 BC to today.
- New Era: 2000 to 2025, 453 questions.
Said openly: where the questions come from
The questions were researched with AI and checked by AI in several stages. They have not yet been editorially approved by humans. Errors are possible. The English, French and Spanish texts are machine translations and have not yet been proofread by native speakers.
If you notice an error: after each question there is a “Report a mistake” button below the solution, and again in the list at the end of the round. Two clicks are enough and you do not need an account. You can also write to us with the title of the question and what is wrong: markuswimboeck@gmail.com.
